How To Get the Most Out of Your Entertainment Center

How To Get the Most Out of Your Entertainment Center
Brisk autumn breezes may not blow through East Texas in September, but change is certainly in the air. Summer vacations are in the books. School is back in session. And all our favorite football teams from high school to the pros are retaking the field.

Maybe how we watch our football teams at home—as well as everything else we watch—could also use a change. Are you optimizing your television setup for maximum enjoyment? It may surprise you to find that your room’s layout, components, and furniture aren’t as conducive to home viewing as they could be. We’ve put together some tips on how to get the most out of your entertainment center.

An Ideal Room Layout

Ensure your television is the focal point of the room—or at least not competing with another focal point nearby—whether you use your family room, den, or basement to stage your home theater experience. Keep TVs away from attention-grabbers such as fireplaces and competition, such as picture windows. Doing so ensures all eyes are on the screen. Also, consider these aspects of an ideal room layout:

Traffic Flow

“Down in front!” should never be something you have to say in your home. Arrange your furniture to preclude foot traffic between seating and the screen.

Windows and Glare

Even as the days get shorter, you can still find your television contending with the sun.

Viewing Angle

LCD screens just don’t look right if you’re sitting almost perpendicular to the picture. Make sure you keep seating within about 120 degrees.

Cables and Outlets

Cable TV enjoyed nearly 30 years of dominance, but if you’re like most TV viewers, you’ve cut the cord in favor of streaming. While you don’t need those yards and yards of co-ax anymore, there’s still one cord you shouldn’t cut: an ethernet cable from your TV to your router. Wi-Fi is a terrific utility, but you’re not getting the most from your entertainment center if you’re relying on a Wi-Fi signal to carry 90 minutes or more of uninterrupted HD video. Keep your modem within a cable’s reach to ensure the highest picture quality.

While we’re talking cords, be sure to keep them organized. Make the most of zip ties, power strips, and cable sleeves to keep your entertainment center’s wiring from being the star of the show.

Sound Quality

Audio matters as much as video to modern television viewers, whether you’re watching sporting events, feature films, or your favorite streaming series. Unfortunately, audio matters much less to modern television manufacturers. The internal speakers on today’s razor-thin screens simply can’t accommodate the depth and richness of sound that quality programming requires. Invest in a sound bar or external speakers to complement your crystal-clear picture.

Most of all, your entertainment center needs a quality piece of furniture to support that crystal-clear screen and sound. Supernova Furniture features an expansive variety of TV stands in the Houston area, furnishing the homes of film buffs and sports fans from Katy to Humble and beyond.
